Lisa Whelchel is best known for her role on "The Facts of Life" that aired back in the 1980s. It was during that show that she met her husband, Steve Cauble. The two were married for 24 years before divorcing in March. Their collaborative divorce could serve as an example to Ohio couples of how amicable some divorce negotiations can be.

Whelchel and her husband managed to get divorced in March, and no one knew. The divorce was final on March 1 and Whelchel joined the cast of "Survivor: Philippines" on March 10. Whelchel says that she and her now ex-husband are still friends.

Ohio couples that are contemplating divorce may take heart in the example set by Whelchel and Cauble. Even though they know their marriage is over, they have chosen to remain friends. In doing so, they were able to divorce quietly without any public fuss. With a little hard work and determination, any couple has the potential to have an amicable divorce. Once each party comes to terms with the reasons for the divorce, they can make a conscious choice to work together to solve any issues while striving to make their divorce as pleasant an experience as possible.

Some couples may think they aren't capable of having a collaborative divorce. Dealing with all of the issues typically involved in a divorce can be accomplished through open communication with the goal of achieving a settlement jointly. Of course, for those issues that a couple simply can't agree on no matter how hard they try, the courts are still available to help.
